Celebrity Couples Who Met on Set
From Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck to Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, More than 200 celebrity couples who fell in love on set.
On-screen couples are one thing, but when actors actually fall in love on site, that's a whole other ballgame. All of the movie and TV stars on this list met their future spouses while working long hours in Hollywood, and it's no surprise that chemistry between actors and actresses can't be helped over the course of filming.
You wouldn't think that the noisy sets of blockbuster films from MGM and Touchstone would be the best places for a lightning-fast relationship, but for these two actors, that's exactly where it happened.
1. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie
Movie: Mr. and Mrs. Smith
Location: Los Angeles, California
Year: 2005
Few Hollywood celebrities on this list can compare to the brilliance of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Yet few couples have a love story as well-known as theirs. Their story is complicated enough that it could fill a book, but we won't. On the set of their thriller Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Pitt and Jolie first worked together.
Not only were the two on-screen love interests, they kindled a romance on the set as well. Pitt left actress Jennifer Aniston for Jolie, who gave up acting for activism and recently starred in the Disney movie Maleficent. Though the pair have since split, they were together for a long time—twelve years in total.
2. Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult
Movie: X-Men: First Class
Location: London, England
Year: 2010
Jennifer Lawrence is always hilarious, and she recently described herself and ex-boyfriend Nicholas Hoult as "two perverted Homer Simpsons." The two A-listers met in 2010 on the set of the Marvel picture X-Men: First Class. According to an interview with Elle Magazine, Lawrence described the actor as her "best friend" since he had the ability to make the Oscar winner "laugh harder than anybody."
They were out for a while, but eventually broke up because they were both so busy with their respective Hollywood careers. According to E! News, their relationship was strained because they spent so much time apart due to their careers. Lawrence, who is now married, has moved on to other things, and so has Pitt.
3. Madonna and Sean Penn
Movie: Material Girl
Location: Hollywood, California
Year: 1985
In the mid-1980s, Madonna and Sean Penn began dating after meeting on the production of her music video for "Material Girl." Both the actor and the singer had recently ended committed relationships and were in no mood for a new one.
They kept in touch as friends, but their relationship quickly blossomed into something more romantic. After dating for four years, they finally tied the knot, only to later divorce. The second time Madonna filed for divorce, in 1989, the divorce was finalised. The Material Girl broke off their difficult, tabloid-fueled relationship, citing "irreconcilable differences" as the reason.
4. Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan-Tatum
Movie: Step Up
Location: Baltimore, Maryland
Year: 2006
Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan-Tatum, who met on the set of the dance movie Step Up, are another famous couple who became famous for their on-set romance. Despite their obvious chemistry from their audition tape, Tatum apparently took some convincing before he and Dewan officially started dating.
But he got over his fears, and they started dating soon after the Touchstone film's premiere. They tied the knot in 2009 and were happily married for nine years before getting divorced due to work conflicts. Even yet, Step Up is still remembered fondly as a top romance film of the new millennium.
5. Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz
Movie: Les Grandes Horizontales
Location: London, England
Year: 1994
The British actors Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz have been married for over a decade. The two were friends for quite some time before they wed in 2011. On the set of the play Les Grandes Horizontales, the two actors became friends. They didn't start dating right away in 1994, but in December of 2010 they reconciled after being separated for over a decade.
Even if the characters in Les Grandes Horizontales don't meet on a lavish MGM set, the play still manages to win over critics and audiences alike. London's National Theatre Studio is presenting a performance of a dark romance with an erotic plot that naturally paired up Weisz and Craig.
6. Grace and Trai Byers
Movie: Empire
Location: Chicago
Year: 2015
It's only natural for certain couples to look great together. When Grace and Trai Byers first met in 2015 on the set of Empire, she was already in a serious relationship. She eventually saw that the relationship wasn't going anywhere and ended it.
The two started dating soon after, and they were engaged and married in 2016 on Grand Cayman Island. From the looks of their social media posts, they are completely and hopelessly in love.
7. Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher
Movie: That ‘70s Show

Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher are another celebrity coupling that has stood the test of time. Kunis and Kutcher met for the first time on the set of their successful comedy, That '70s Show, when they were both just 14 years old.
Before they got back together in 2012, the castmates were just colleagues. After working together on a Fox show for several years, Kutcher and Kunis tied the knot in 2015. They are now the proud parents of two young men named Dimitri and Wyatt. When will we get to see them together again in a movie? Fans are crossing their fingers, though.
8. Claire Danes and Hugh Dancy
Movie: Evening
Location: Newport, Rhode Island
Year: 2007
Claire Danes and Hugh Dancy are just another Hollywood power couple that cross paths while filming. Danes had previously swore off relationships after a run of poor luck, but after meeting Dancy on the set of the 2006 film Evening, she couldn't resist giving him another shot.
However, despite appearances to the contrary, the two did not fall in love on the set. Co-star Mamie Gummer claims the two became fast friends while playing word games like Scrabble and Boggle. Later, when they co-starred on Homeland, the couple maintained their romance on and off screen. If you can't get enough of Claire Danes, her new programme, Essex Serpent, is available on Apple+.
9. Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton
Movie: The Voice
Location: Hollywood, California

The engagement didn't last long, and less than five months later, the singer and the comedian were no longer together. The passing of Grande's ex-boyfriend, the rapper Mac Miller, was a factor in their decision to break up. Davidson claims to have recognised the end of the relationship at the time it occurred and to have continued to be supportive even afterward.
11. Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck
Movie: Pearl Harbor
Location: Honolulu, Hawaii
Year: 2000
Once upon a time, Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck were Hollywood's "it" couple. The two actors first met in 2000 on the set of Pearl Harbour. It was the brutal war drama shot two years before the 2002 feature Daredevil, despite popular belief that their star-crossed romance took place in the latter.
Despite rumours to the contrary, Affleck and the Neutrogena representative did not begin dating during the Pearl Harbour attack. Garner was already married to fellow actor Scott Foley, so they didn't become friends until Daredevil. They began dating in 2002, and three years later, in late June 2005, they tied the knot.
12. Natalie Portman and Benjamin Millepied
Movie: Black Swan
Location: New York City, New York
Year: 2009
In 2020, Natalie Portman and her dancer husband Benjamin Millepied will have been married for eight years. While Portman was starring in the psychological thriller Black Swan, Millepied was working as the film's choreographer.
Despite the film's grim tone (it's not quite as lighthearted as Dancing with the Stars on ABC), the romance between Portman and Millepied has been everything but gloomy. Portman called Millepied her "love," and she credited him with entrusting her with the "most important role" of her life. Their names for their children are Amalia and Aleph.
13. Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem
Movie: Jamon Jamon
Location: Zaragoza, Spain
Year: 1992

In the early 1990s, when Cruz was only sixteen, the Disney star and Bardem did not start dating. However, they didn't start dating until 2010, when they made their first public appearance together at that year's Goya Awards.
14. Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling
Movie: The Place Beyond the Pines
Location: Schenectady, New York
Year: 2012
One of Hollywood's longest-lasting (and best-looking) couples, Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling are notoriously discreet about their relationship. Mendes, however, did confirm to OprahMag.com that she and Gosling met while filming The Place Beyond the Pines.
The two started dating after meeting on the set of the intense drama. The Pantene representative told OprahMag.com that she didn't desire children until she met her long-term partner, Gosling. Both Esmeralda Amada and Amada Lee are their daughters.
15. Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively

Despite being married for quite some time, the couple is notorious for their playful antics and public displays of affection on social media. In 2010, they met on the set of Green Lantern, but the chemistry between them was slow to develop.
As Reynolds revealed in an interview, they were both with other people at the time. The M.C.U. star was married to Black Widow actress Scarlett Johansson, while Lively was dating her Gossip Girl co-star. The actors became friends while filming the critically acclaimed crime drama Se7en, which grossed over $320 million worldwide.
In 1994, Pitt and Paltrow started dating. They got engaged afterward but ultimately broke up. After a few years, Paltrow began seeing actor Ben Affleck, while Pitt began dating actress Jennifer Aniston. Although neither actor has spoken publicly about their past relationship, the few comments each has made suggest that they are still on good terms.
17. Vincent Kartheiser and Alexis Bledel
Movie: Mad Men
Location: Los Angeles, California
Year: 2012
The romance between Alexis Bledel and Vincent Kartheiser fared better than the love stories we saw on Mad Men, a period TV show that featured a lot of drama, infidelity, and sales tactics (although everyone got to fall in love with Jon Hamm, so it was all worth it).
In 2012, Bledel was a guest star on Mad Men's fifth season as Beth Dawes. Kartheiser, on the other hand, was a regular for the whole season. When they met on set, they fell in love quickly and said they were going out together. After two years, they got married.

They initially met one other on set of the HBO series. The genuine love story happened in 2011, but no one found out they were dating until the paparazzi took a picture of them holding hands.
Leslie played Ygritte, a woman of the Free Folk, in Game of Thrones, while Harington portrayed the show's most beloved character, Jon Snow. They got married in a real castle in 2018 and had their first kid in the dead of winter 2021.

Samira Wiley and Lauren Morelli began as friends, as do most successful partnerships. While working on Orange Is the New Black, the two actors became fast friends. While Morelli worked behind the scenes as a writer, Wiley starred in the show. The fact that Morelli was already married did not stop Wiley from becoming the love of her life.
Eventually, Morelli ended her marriage and started dating the lady she'd had a crush on ever since they met. Although they may have begun their relationship as friends, by 2016 they were engaged and the following year they were married. In 2021, the two women were finally able to start a family welcoming their beautifull child.

They actually didn't see each other again for almost twenty years, during which time each of them had several boyfriends and women. Even though they broke up in 2015, there was no bad blood between them. Someone said that they broke up because they were both too busy, but a friend told Cheat Sheet that they still have "immense love" for each other. Since they are still friends, it looks like everything turned out well for these two Spider-Man stars.

This was Cyrus's way of going back to his country roots. Hemsworth and the Hannah Montana star broke up later that year, but they still had a lot of laughs and good times together over the years.

The two started dating in 2011, and their romance is still going strong. VanCamp and Bowman are still happily married despite the show's cancellation in 2015. A fan favourite, VanCamp told People in 2021 that she is "so grateful" that she and her husband have been able to spend time together despite their hectic schedules.
Who can forget the love between Troy and Gabriella on High School Musical? HSM was a huge hit for Disney, and it wasn’t just a moneymaker, it was a matchmaker. It was there that she met her future husband, Justin Theroux. They didn’t begin dating for a few years, though Aniston did say that he was the “nicest person in the world.” They began dating in 2011, and they got married in 2015. They reconnected three months later before Christmas and, in 2014, Bilson and Christensen welcomed their child, a daughter named Briar Rose. However, in March of 2021, Brody finally filled us in on all the details. The pair met in 2011 on the set of the movie The Oranges. They hit it off immediately, and they began dating quietly. He later told GQ, “Rita and I just looked at each other and — kaboing! — that was that. I asked Rita if it was the real thing for her, and it just couldn’t be denied.” With his marriage already on the rocks, it didn’t take long for the split to happen. By 1988, Tom and Rita were happily married.

Rumors of their romance swirled in 2008 when people noticed that they were very touchy-feely at an industry dinner. For example, Moreno admitted in her memoir that she had an affair with Elvis Presley to make Brando jealous.

Another relationship that came from a teen TV drama was the one between Chad Michael Murray and Sophia Bush. The actors met on the set of One Tree Hill. Both were in their early twenties, even though they were playing high-schoolers, and their on-screen characters dated on and off during the show.
The two began dating offscreen, too. They started dating in 2003 and got married in 2005. Just five months after getting married, they got divorced. Bush asked for the marriage to be annulled because of “fraud.” Later, she’d say the two had “no business” dating and marrying each other.
93. Zoe Saldana and Bradley Cooper
Movie: The Words
Location: Montreal, Canada
Year: 2011
Bradley Cooper and Zoe Saldana starred in Guardians of the Galaxy together, but the pair met years before that, on the set of The Words, a 2011 film. The two dated briefly, but things didn’t pan out, and they broke up a year later in December of 2012.
Saldana said that she usually doesn’t remain friends with exes, telling Marie Claire that she prefers to just “mov[e] on.” However, she made an exception for her co-star, and she said that things weren’t weird between her and Cooper. She called him “very dedicated” and “professional.” Female co-stars, including Jennifer Lawrence and Lady Gaga, have also spoken highly of the star’s professionalism and work ethic.

The two started dating shortly after meeting on-set, though they called it quits in 2020. Delevingne told her fans to leave Benson alone and stop “hating” on her, saying that only she and the actress “knew the truth” about their relationship. The supermodel said that stress was the main contributing factor to her split from Benson.

Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev met on the set of the horror-drama The Vampire Diaries. The two were one of many couples who felt a spark on the TV show, and the relationship between Damon and Elena delighted fans.
The two broke up in 2013, though Dobrev didn’t leave the show for another two years. Though the exes had to work together, they were quite professional, and their co-star, Claire Holt, said it “never got weird” on set between the two. Holt said that the two “did a great job managing” the breakup, something that must have been “really tough.”
96. Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson
Movie: Dawson’s Creek

Dawson’s Creek stars Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson had a relationship that went at least a little more smoothly than their on-screen romance. The two dated as Dawson’s Creek became one of television’s most successful teen dramas. They broke up two years before their characters fell in love on screen. The two were in a fatal car accident that killed two people. Broderick was convicted of reckless driving, but he received only a $175 fine for the charge. Ryder said she and Slater “tried to go out” a few times, but there was “always…drama” that prevented them from really being together. However, there are no hard feelings, and Slater said that he “definitely love[s]” the actress still today.
101. Johnny Depp and Amber Heard
Movie: The Rum Diary
Location: Puerto Rico

Things immediately became tumultuous, and the pair separated in 2016. They got formally divorced in 2017, it was after the divorce that both parties began making accusations against one another. Carpenter and Hall decided to make things official, and the pair eloped in 2008 on New Year’s Eve. They dated for two years and were married for two, but, sadly, they couldn’t make it last. The pair divorced in 2010 while Dexter was still filming, which must have been awkward for the two stars.

The two began dating, though they didn’t last. Aniston said she was grateful for Vaughn, as he “brought [her] back to life” after her much-publicized split from actor Brad Pitt. She and Green met on the set of Hope and Faith, an ABC sitcom. At the time, the actress was eighteen and Green was thirty, something that Green later said confirmed him. They were married from 2016 until 2018, with multiple breakups and makeups in between. The two showed signs that all might not be lost in June of 2021, as they were spotted on a bike ride together.
107. Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson
Movie: Twilight
Location: Portland, Oregon
Year: 2009
Actors Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson were a major Hollywood couple for a while, and that was partly because their careers took off from the same film franchise. The pair met while filming Twilight, a vampire-human romance story that was the obsession of every middle schooler in the 2000s.
Pattinson and Stewart were together for nearly four years until tragedy struck, as anyone following the news remembers. Stewart was photographed getting close with someone else on-camera, which ignited rumors of cheating (which were later confirmed to be true). Though there were certainly bad feelings between them during the breakup, Stewart revealed in 2020 that the two are “still friends.”
108. Jennifer Lawrence and Darren Aronofsky
Movie: Mother!
Location: Montreal, Canada
Year: 2016
Mother! wasn’t exactly a romantic movie (it was actually quite horrifying, as fans of the film can attest), but it seems that even through horror, sparks flew between Jennifer Lawrence, the star of the movie, and Darren Aronofsky, the director.
The two first sparked dating rumors in the fall of 2016, and they were spotted smooching in New York a couple months later. The relationship lasted a year before the Hunger Games star and Aronofsky called it quits. Kidman said that she felt the connection instantly, and she later told Vanity Fair that Cruise “swept [her] off [her] feet.” She said that, despite having had serious relationships before, Cruise was who she wanted to marry. However, when the pair got married, she realized things weren’t so sunny in paradise, and she felt like she had to be “seen, not heard” in the marriage.
110. Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez
Movie: Dark Tide
Location: Cape Town, South Africa
Year: 2010
Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez met in 2010 in Cape Town, South Africa, when they were filming their movie, Dark Tide. The pair were inseparable after they met, taking their whirlwind romance from Paris to New York City to London. Though the tabloids reported on the stars’ rocky road to a relationship, Berry and Martinez hung in there.
In 2020, news broke that the love affair between the two was over, as they were divorcing after just a couple of years of marriage. The couple made a joint statement to People Magazine, where they said that it was “with a heavy heart” that they’d “come to the decision” to file for divorce.

Very few Hollywood actors have had as long a love story as Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck. The two met in 2001 on the set of a romantic comedy, Gigli. Though Gigli was a box office failure when it was released in 2003, one good thing came out of it: J. Lo and Ben became friends.
At the time that Gigli was filmed, Lopez was still married to Cris Judd, her second husband. Regardless, she and Affleck became close, and they started dating in 2002. Though the pair were on and off for years, they finally got back together in 2021, much to the delight of fans.

Spelling and McDermott were married to other people when they met on the set of Mind Over Murder, a made-for-TV Lifetime movie shot in Ottawa, Canada.
Spelling and McDermott immediately hit it off, and the former recalled in her memoir that she had to confess to her then-husband, Charlie Shanian, that she’d had an affair. They got engaged in 2015, and Maggie Q was seen sporting a huge diamond on her finger.
The two didn’t settle on a wedding date, even though they had glowing praise for one another, with McDermott saying that Maggie Q “took [his] breath away.” The pair were engaged for four years before they called it quits in 2019.
115. Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder
Movie: Edward Scissorhands
Location: Lutz, Florida
Year: 1989
Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder were together for three and a half years, and they were one of the early 1990s “it” couples. They dated from 1989 until 1993, and, as Cheat Sheet put it, the pair’s relationship was “as significant to the ‘90s as over-tweezed eyebrows.”
Depp said that, when he first saw Winona, it was love at first sight. He compared it to the “zoom lenses in West Side Story,” where everything else but Ryder grew “foggy.” Nearly four years after their meeting on the set of Edward Scissorhands, the two split because they grew apart, despite Depp getting a “Winona Forever” tattoo on his bicep.
116. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West
Movie: On Set of Brandy’s Music Video

The pair didn’t get together right away, though West had set his sights on dating Kim for quite some time before it actually happened.
The two began officially dating in 2012, a decade after they first met. Love them or hate them, the Wests became one of the most famous couples in the world. The romance came to a tabloid-frenzied end in 2021 when Kardashian filed for divorce.
117. Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe
Movie: Cruel Intentions
Location: New York City, New York
Year: 1999
Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe seem like ancient history now, when it comes to Hollywood relationships. The pair met on the set of Cruel Intentions, and they began dating in 1999. They were married until 2008, calling it quits after it was revealed that Phillippe had an affair with Abbie Cornish, his co-star in Stop Loss.
The two later discussed their marriage, blaming the split partially on the fact that they were both very young at the time. Witherspoon is now in her forties, and she is married to Jim Toth, to whom she’s been linked since 2011.
118. Camila Mendes and Charles Melton
Movie: Riverdale
Location: Vancouver, Canada

The two began dating in 2018, and they were together for a year before splitting in 2019. However, fans need not despair, as headlines broke in June of 2021 that the Riverdale stars were reportedly back together. The pair were spotted on a date night in August 2021, rekindling their romance just a couple of years after it ended.
119. Jesse Lee Soffer and Torrey DeVitto
Movie: Chicago P.D.

Soffer said that she and DeVitto “complement[ed] each other perfectly,” and DeVitto agreed, describing their relationship as “great” and “awesome.” The two were together for eight months before they ended their relationship in May of 2019. Though they went their separate ways, sources say that the duo are still friends.
120. Diane Kruger and Norman Reedus
Movie: Sky
Location: Vancouver, Canada
Year: 2015
Diane Kruger and Norman Reedus did what is usually impossible for a Hollywood couple to do: keep their relationship under wraps. The pair met for the first time in 2015, when they starred as the romantic leads of the drama Sky. In the film, Kruger played a Parisian woman who traveled through the California desert to find herself after breaking up with her husband.
Life imitated art in this instance, as Kruger and Reedus started dating after the movie. However, news didn’t break of their relationship for two years (though there were some rumors). The two became official in 2017, openly kissing and hand-holding around New York City. Now, the pair are engaged.
121. Shia Labeouf and FKA Twigs
Movie: Honey Boy
Location: Los Angeles, California
Year: 2019
Shia LeBeouf and FKA Twigs had a rough relationship, as headlines from January of 2021 onward can show. People were shocked to learn about what went on behind the scenes, much of which Shia has admitted to. FKA Twigs and LeBeouf met on the set of Honey Boy, the actor’s semi-autobiographical film.
FKA Twigs said that Shia showed her “big displays of affection.” That line was taken straight from the musician’s lawsuit against the actor, who she is suing for battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and assault. Hopefully, the situation gets resolved so that everyone can move forward.
122. Jennifer Lopez and Cris Judd
Movie: “Love Don’t Cost a Thing” Music Video
Location: Miami, Florida
Year: 2001
Jennifer Lopez, in a 2021 interview, said she “doesn’t really count” her wedding to Cris Judd as one of her marriages (we’re not sure how Judd feels about that statement). The music superstar met Judd, a backup dancer, on the set of her music video for “Love Don’t Cost a Thing” in 2001.
Judd had a different attitude towards the relationship, saying that, the first time he saw J. Lo, he knew he was “going to marry” her. The pair became official when they attended the Oscars together that year, an event that Judd later called complete “bedlam.”
123. Debra Messing and Will Chase
Movie: Smash
Location: New York City, New York
Year: 2011
Debra Messing and her ex-boyfriend, Will Chase, met on the set of Smash, a drama series based on the music industry. The co-stars of the musical drama got together in 2011, and they dated for nearly three years before splitting up.
Though they broke up, the two are still “close friends.” It’s been seven years since the pair were together, and both have moved on, both romantically and career-wise. Messing is working on East Wing, a Starz political drama, while Will Chase is back to acting on Broadway. Luckily, there don’t seem to be any hard feelings between the two actors, which is more than we can say for some of the people on this list.
124. Kristen Bell and Dax Shephard
Movie: When in Rome
Location: New York City, New York
Year: 2010
Kristen Bell and Dax Shephard have been together for fourteen years, and they are one of Hollywood’s lone couple success stories. The pair first met in 2007 at a mutual friend’s dinner party, but it wasn’t until they were on the set of their romantic comedy, When in Rome, that they got close.
Both of them agree that they didn’t really feel any sparks towards each other when they first met, with Shephard joking that he thought Bell was “in a cult.” Clearly, they overcame that struggle, and, though the two have had their ups and downs, they seem very happy now.
125. Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson
Movie: Saturday Night Live
Location: New York City, New York
Year: 2021
Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson shocked the Internet, but the two appear to be getting along way better than Kim and her ex-husband, Kanye, did. The two got to know one another on the set of Saturday Night Live when Kim was hosting, and they hit it off.
Over time, they hung out in the same friend circles, so they got to know one another better. Eventually, they began dating, with news breaking after they were spotted spending Halloween together. According to reports, Kim loves the stress-free, funny side of Davidson, and a source confirmed to People that the two of them “seem serious.”
126. Olivia Rodrigo and Joshua Bassett
Movie: High School Musical: The Musical: The Series
Location: Salt Lake City, Utah
Year: 2019
If you’ve heard Olivia Rodrigo’s iconic debut album, Sour, then you know that things didn’t go that well between her and Joshua Bassett. She and Bassett auditioned together for their Disney roles in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, and they hit it off and began dating shortly thereafter.
Recently, Bassett gave an interview stating that Rodrigo hadn’t spoken to him in a while. The young couple had a lot of tumultuous drama, and they shaded each other constantly in the media with subtle back and forths. Count this as one on-set relationship that bit the dust pretty badly.
127. Aimee Lou Wood and Connor Swindells
Movie: Sex Education
Location: South Wales, U.K.
Year: 2019
According to actress Aimee Lou Wood, her relationship with her Sex Education co-star, Connor Swindells, wasn’t “serving” both of them, so they called it off. The two began dating after they met on set, and, though they split up in 2020, they have remained on good terms ever since.
The two split shortly before the release of the latest season, mirroring their pairing on-screen. Wood and Swindells dated on the show but, much like their real-life, off-screen romantic relationship, it didn’t work out (though we assume the split was for different reasons than those pictured on Sex Education).
128. Keira Knightley and Rupert Friend
Movie: Pride and Prejudice
Location: Kent, England
Year: 2005
Pride and Prejudice was an award-winning film that helped further both Keira Knightley’s and Rupert Friend’s careers. The two starred as Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Wickham, respectively, and they began dating shortly after they met on the set of the 2005 drama.
Years later, they ended their relationship. According to inside sources, the grueling work schedules drove the two apart. They are both big-name actors, so it’s easy to believe that constant commitments would get in the way. Then again, who knows? Neither of the former couple has publicly confirmed why the relationship ended, even ten years later.
129. David Lambert and Meg DeLacy
Movie: The Fosters
Location: San Pedro, California
Year: 2013
The Fosters was a drama that aired its first episode in 2013. The drama featured a foster family trying to make it work. David Lambert and Meg DeLacy were two of the stars of the show, which got a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Sparks flew between the two, who met for the first time during filming. Whether or not the pair worked out is unclear, as neither has really made any public comments. Breakup or not, there’s no denying that The Fosters was one of the better dramas of the past few years. It ran for five seasons, with more than 100 episodes in total.
130. Kimberly J. Brown and Daniel Kountz
Movie: Halloweentown II
Location: Vancouver, Canada
Year: 2001
The Halloweentown franchise has been quite the moneymaker for Disney. It has become the hallmark of family-friend spooky season movies, and people watch and rewatch the movies every year. When Kimberly J. Brown and Daniel Kountz, two of the stars of the movie, met on set, it wasn’t exactly love at first sight.
Though the co-stars got along well, Brown was only seventeen, while Kountz was twenty-two and was dating someone else. Sparks flew fifteen years later when they reconnected at a dinner, and Brown said she remembered how “funny, kind, [and] sweet” that Kountz was. The two are still together to this day.
131. Joey King and Jacob Elordi
Movie: The Kissing Booth
Location: South Africa
Year: 2018
What better way for sparks to fly than on the set of a romantic movie? A romantic teen movie, nonetheless. The Kissing Booth was a Netflix movie that released in 2018 and sparked a whole franchise. The movie starred Jacob Elordi and Joey King as Noah Flynn and Elle, two teenagers who fall in love after Elle kisses Noah.
The romantic comedy has a lot of drama and touching moments, and, apparently, that rubbed off on the cast. Elordi and King began dating after they met on set, though their relationship ended in 2019, just a year later.
132. Jared Padalecki and Genevieve Padalecki
Movie: Supernatural
Location: Vancouver, Canada
Year: 2008
Supernatural gave Jared Paladecki a source of steady work for fifteen years. The haunting series was the longest-running American fantasy show in TV history, starting in September of 2005 and ending in November of 2020. The show followed the journey of two brothers who hunt and kill supernatural monsters.
Genevieve Cortese (now Genevieve Paladecki) was brought onto Supernatural in 2008 to play Ruby, a very pretty, yet evil, demon. She and Paladecki hit it off, and they began dating. They’ve been together for thirteen years, and they have three children. Paladecki said it worked between the two of them because they “got to know each other” before even going on a first date.
133. Brenda Song and Macaulay Culkin
Movie: Changeland
Location: Thailand
Year: 2017
Millennial hearts swooned when Brenda Song, a star on The Suite Life, and Macaulay Culkin from Home Alone got together. The two kept their relationship low profile, but the news broke when they were spotted on a double date together. Recently, they welcomed their first child.
The two actors met on the set of the movie Changeland in 2017. The film featured a troubled man (Culkin) who met up with his ex-friend in Thailand for a journey of personal discovery. The film was more than just a comeback for Culkin; it was also where he met the love of his life.
134. Freida Pinto and Dev Patel
Movie: Slumdog Millionaire
Location: Mumbai, India
Year: 2007
Before they even began dating, Dev Patel was calling Freida Pinto his soulmate. The two met in 2007 on the set of Slumdog Millionaire, their award-winning film. The two played love interests in the movie, and that translated to real life. Patel was six years younger than Pinto, but that didn’t stop him.
The two dated for six years before breaking up in 2014. According to tabloids, the breakup was “amicable,” which is a rare thing in Hollywood. Though the two ended their relationship, they remained close, and neither will likely forget Slumdog, as it was a breakout movie for each.
135. Olivia Rodrigo and Ethan Wacker
Movie: Bizaardvark
Location: Hollywood, California
Year: 2016
Bizaardvark was basically a who’s who of Generation Z social media stars. It featured Olivia Rodrigo, Ethan Wacker, Jake Paul, and Madison Hu. The comedic series aired in 2016, and it had its final episode in 2019. Olivia Rodrigo, a second-time list maker, met Ethan Wacker on the set of the show.
The two began dating in 2018, Instagramming their relationship a year later to make it official. Of course, this has led to a debate among Rodrigo’s large fan base. Fans wonder whether her hit single, “Driver’s License,” was about Joshua Bassett or Ethan Wacker. She has yet to confirm either.
136. Natalia Dyer and Charlie Heaton
Movie: Stranger Things
Location: Atlanta, Georgia
Year: 2017
This is yet another example of a couple that begins dating on a show and has that romance translate to real life. Charlie Heaton, who plays Jonathan Byers, and Natalia Dyer, who plays Nancy Wheeler, were a fan-favorite couple on Stranger Things. They played the formidable duo who helped take down monster after monster.
They developed a real-life romance, and the two have been going strong for nearly five years. They live together in New York City. According to Heaton, they kept their romance quiet because they weren’t sure “what [it] was” or whether it would work at first.
